The Parliamentary speaker, Thoko Didiza, is set to support President Cyril Ramaphosa’s initiative to halt his impeachment proceedings, positioning her against a faction of lawmakers currently investigating the president.
“The Speaker believes that this stance is not only crucial but also perfectly reflects the specific roles and responsibilities entrusted to the Assembly, distinct from those of the Impeachment Committee,” the parliament stated in a press release on Sunday.

A panel of legislators tasked with determining whether Ramaphosa should be impeached due to his handling of a robbery at his game farm is expected to meet on Wednesday to discuss their draft terms of reference and the witness appointment process.
