Durban – This week, within two consecutive days, two individuals were tragically shot and killed in separate incidents across Ethikweni.
The latest shooting occurred on Friday, June 26, 2026.
ALS Paramedics were called to the scene of a shooting incident around 9 AM on South Coast Road, near Edwin Swales Drive in the Rossburgh area of Durban.
As per ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garith Jamieson, upon arrival, they discovered South African Police Service (SAPS) officers and security personnel already present at the location, with an area cordoned off around a truck.
“Paramedics were directed to a male who had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body,” Jamieson mentioned.
“Upon assessment, he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The motive behind this fatal shooting is still unclear.
A day prior, on Thursday, June 25, 2025, ALS Paramedics received a call just after 11:20 AM regarding another shooting on Lotus Road, close to Foxglove Road in Springtown, Durban.
“When they arrived, paramedics found SAPS already on the scene, with the area secured,” Jamieson remarked.
“They were directed to a male, believed to be in his 50s, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.”
“Unfortunately, he showed no signs of life and was declared dead on-site.”
At this time, there have been no reported arrests.
In the meantime, East Coast Radio reports that police in Durban and throughout KwaZulu-Natal are on high alert in preparation for the anti-immigrant protests scheduled for June 30.
Authorities have increased their deployments, coordinated with community organizations, and issued a warning that any acts of violence, looting, or intimidation will be swiftly addressed.
