Groundbreaking Multimodal LLM for Cultural Tourism Broadens Its Horizons

XI’AN, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 29 June 2026 – The world’s first commercial multimodal large language model (LLM) for cultural tourism, known as BoGuan, has begun extensive use in Xi’an, China. This innovative model supports commercial prosperity by streamlining the development of digital intellectual property for intangible cultural heritage, enhancing cultural tourism initiatives, and improving short drama production. As a result, it is injecting new energy into China’s efforts for heritage conservation and its cultural tourism industry.

As one of China’s historic cities and a prominent global tourist destination, Xi’an is working alongside partners such as Huawei, China Telecom Shaanxi, and China West Airport Group (CWAG) to harness digital technologies, including AI and 5G-A, for cultural tourism. For example, BoGuan is part of a new AI travel assistant that had amassed over 4 million users by March this year.

In September 2025, SCG and Huawei launched the BoGuan Large Model, marking the debut of the world’s first commercial multimodal LLM designed for cultural tourism and China’s first industry-specific model aimed at protecting cultural heritage. This model is developed on an advanced intelligent computing framework powered by a high-quality dataset that includes over 1.2 PB of data, featuring 31 million images, 4.4 million minutes of video, 2.18 million minutes of audio recordings, 510 3D models, and 960 million pieces of structured text.

BoGuan is capable of producing precise multimodal content, including top-tier materials on cultural artifacts. This functionality enables the creation of new digital presentations of relics, the digitization and preservation of traditional crafts, and the establishment of digital IP for intangible cultural heritage. Artisan Zhang Beiyuan, known for his dough sculptures, commented, “With this model, I can create a dough sculpture that would typically take two to three months in under a week.” BoGuan has also been key in creating digital IP, including the well-received character Tang Biaobiao, designed by merging local cultural heritage features with the stone carvings from the Six Steeds of Zhao Mausoleum. Sales of related digital collectibles and creative products have already exceeded CNY2 million.

In addition to preserving cultural heritage, BoGuan has played a role in developing various cultural tourism applications, such as an AI photography tool and AI travel assistant. Visitors can interact with this assistant through the GO-SHAANXI app to create and adjust travel itineraries and receive real-time recommendations for activities at numerous attractions. The Zhiying Camera mini program offers services that blend user photos with AI-created historical scenes, allowing guests to “travel back to ancient times.” These creative offerings maximize the commercial potential of high-quality cultural tourism data. Furthermore, SCG is leveraging BoGuan to link short drama production with cultural tourism, thereby improving both the efficiency and quality of productions in Xi’an, a city renowned for its short drama industry.

Moreover, China Telecom Shaanxi and Huawei have rolled out a 5G-A network utilizing three-component carrier aggregation (3CC) technology at Xi’an’s Grand Tang Mall, a key tourist location. This network achieves peak uplink and downlink speeds of 600 Mbps and 3.5 Gbps, respectively—approximately ten times quicker than standard 5G networks. During the 2026 May Day holiday, it supported concurrent access for 23,000 users, ensuring uninterrupted video streaming and social media engagement. Additionally, 5G-A-enhanced HD live streaming at the Grand Tang Mall has emerged as a vital tool for attracting new visitors. Data shows that the average user dwell time for these live streams has nearly doubled, while the average transaction value has surged by 62%.
