Bronville – Law enforcement in Bronville, Free State, arrested three suspects after rescuing a critically injured kidnap victim found in the trunk of their car.
At approximately 08:00 on Sunday, 29 June 2026, officers responded to notifications of a disturbance in the area.
Upon their arrival, a local resident alerted them to a silver BMW that was thought to be carrying a person in its trunk.
Soon after, police stopped the vehicle and conducted a search, discovering three male individuals inside.
In the trunk, officers encountered a man who was bloodied and severely injured, with the odor of petrol around him.
Blood was also noted on the hands and shoes of the suspects.
The victim was quickly taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Palesa Thabana reported that initial findings suggest the suspects assaulted the victim at his home, accusing him of stealing car parts.
“They allegedly soaked him in petrol before forcing him into the trunk of their car and fleeing the scene,” she stated.
“Authorities confiscated two pairs of blood-stained sneakers and the vehicle linked to the incident.
“These items have been secured as evidence for the ongoing investigation.”
The suspects, aged 25, 27, and 40, face charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.
They are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
