WIMBLEDON’s stringent rules prevented Serena Williams’s youngest daughter from witnessing her mother’s return to the sport.
The 44-year-old Williams made her long-awaited comeback to tennis this evening after a four-year hiatus, competing against Australian Maya Joint in the first round on Centre Court.

The match was delayed due to Alex Zverev’s lengthy four-set win against Belgian Alexander Blockx, leading to the roof’s closure to avoid interruptions from fading light.
In the players’ box, several family members were present, including elder sister Venus, 46, who will team up with Serena for doubles later this week.
The younger Williams sibling, a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, was seen during warm-ups with her eldest daughter Alexis Olympia, who has previously attended her mother’s matches.
Meanwhile, Adira River, born in August 2023, was held by her father during the coin toss.

The crowd of 15,000 gave the duo a standing ovation upon their arrival, a rare occurrence at the venue but fitting for a sports icon.
However, Wimbledon enforces a strict policy prohibiting children aged five and under from being on the courtside during matches.
This regulation was similarly applied during Andy Murray’s retirement two years ago, which kept some of his four children from witnessing his last doubles match live.
As a result, certain family members had to take Adira River backstage as the match carried on.
