WATCH: Western Cape Police Investigate Officer Over Anti-Foreigner Remarks in SAPS Vehicle

An officer from the Western Cape is currently undergoing an internal investigation following the release of a recording in which he made anti-foreigner remarks while operating a South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicle.

The video that has surfaced on social media shows the officer in uniform using a loudspeaker to deliver comments directed at foreign nationals, with another officer driving the vehicle.

In the video, the officer repeatedly asserts the slogan “abaHambe,” associated with activism against undocumented migrants, and refers to a 30 June deadline proposed by some activists calling for foreigners to leave the country.

Western Cape Police Confirm SAPS Inquiry Into Officer

The Western Cape police have acknowledged that the matter is under investigation. Management is in the process of identifying the officer before initiating any internal disciplinary actions.

In an official statement, provincial police distanced themselves from the officer’s remarks.

Vredendal Officer Reportedly Involved

Preliminary reports indicate that the officer shown in the footage is based in the Vredendal policing division along the West Coast.

The officer’s identity has yet to be revealed as the internal investigation is still in progress. Authorities will provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident before any further actions are determined.

SAPS Professional Conduct Under Examination

This incident has prompted renewed examination of the expected conduct from SAPS members during the performance of their official duties.
