Durban – King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has taken measures to address a controversy following the release of a video online that depicted him appearing to disrespect the leader of the significant Shembe church, Unyazi Lwezulu.
In the video, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini—apparently influenced—was seen verbally confronting his wife, Queen Nomzamo Myeni, accusing her of infidelity and threatening to evict her from the palace along with her financial support.
Moreover, the Zulu King made inappropriate remarks about Unyazi Lwezulu, labeling him an “islima” (idiot).
Nonetheless, a contrite King Misuzulu kaZwelithini sent a delegation, led by Inkosi Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, Chairperson of the King’s Council, along with His Majesty’s Spokesperson Mpikayise Buthelezi, to meet with Unyazi Lwezulu in a spirit of mutual respect, openness, and family harmony.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Office of His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini announced the “successful conclusion of a cordial meeting between representatives of His Majesty and Unyazi Lwezulu.”
The Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, also participated in the discussions.
“The Zulu Royal Family delegation was entrusted by His Majesty to conduct this engagement on his behalf,” His Majesty’s Office stated in a communiqué to The Bulrushes.
“During the meeting, Unyazi Lwezulu reconfirmed His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as his King, describing the recent issues as familial disagreements that have now been settled.
“He also reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Zulu Throne and the Zulu Nation, expressing gratitude for the humility, respect, and sincerity displayed by the Royal Family delegation during the conversation.”
As a gesture of goodwill and respect, the delegation presented cattle to the Shembe leadership on behalf of His Majesty.
“This gesture signified reconciliation, mutual respect, and the enduring relationship between the Zulu Throne and the Shembe community,” the statement noted.
“His Majesty welcomes the positive outcome of the discussions and reiterates that dialogue, mutual respect, and family unity are core values that strengthen the Zulu Kingdom’s relations with traditional leaders, faith communities, and all citizens.
“The Kingdom remains dedicated to promoting reconciliation, social cohesion, and nation-building for the benefit of both current and future generations.”
