Pretoria – Andile Mvuyiselwa Somgaxa, the Gauteng head of the anti-immigrant organization March And March, has succumbed to injuries sustained from gunshots.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the National South African Police Service (SAPS), reported that Somgaxa was shot at his residence in Greenfield, Johannesburg, on July 4, 2026.
“He died in the hospital on July 9, 2026,” Brigadier Mathe stated on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has partnered with Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, to form a specialized unit of skilled detectives and crime intelligence officers to probe into Somgaxa’s murder.
Lieutenant General Dimpane condemned the assault and assured the public that SAPS will rigorously pursue those accountable for this crime.
“Establishing a multidisciplinary team demonstrates the seriousness with which SAPS is tackling this issue,” remarked Lieutenant General Dimpane.
“We are committed to a thorough investigation to uncover the details surrounding this murder and to ensure justice is served.”
In the meantime, the Acting National Commissioner has issued a stern warning to individuals who threaten, harass, or engage in violence against foreign nationals, stressing that such actions are illegal and will not be tolerated.
Lieutenant General Dimpane also mentioned the recent detention of five suspects in Lephalale, Limpopo, who reportedly impersonated officials from the Department of Home Affairs and unlawfully demanded the removal of foreign nationals from Marapong township.
This incident involved a Nigerian citizen who was subjected to intimidation and pressured to shut down his business after the group falsely claimed that foreign nationals were barred from conducting business in South Africa.
The Department of Home Affairs confirmed the individual’s legal status, asserting that he possessed valid documentation to operate his business within the country.

“The law treats everyone equally,” stated Lieutenant General Dimpane.
“No person or group has the authority to conduct immigration checks, determine legal status, or forcibly evict individuals from their communities.
“These responsibilities lie solely with law enforcement and relevant government authorities.”
SAPS reminds the public that only authorized law enforcement officials are permitted to conduct inspections and verify the legal statuses of individuals in South Africa.
Any form of intimidation, vigilantism, or violence will be met with decisive action.
