Johannesburg – Businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, currently facing criminal charges, attended the Johannesburg High Court on Monday, 20 July 2026, alongside his wife, Tsakani Matlala, as the state revealed an extensive list of individuals purportedly targeted for murder.
Also in the dock were the alleged hitmen Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela, along with Mabusela’s daughter, Nthabiseng Nzama.
The group is collectively facing 25 charges, which encompass conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, fraud, money laundering, and violations related to firearms.
The individuals purportedly aimed at in these assassination plots include:
- Madoda Joe Sibanyoni – Businessman
- Tebogo Thobejane – Actress and media figure, notably a former partner of Matlala
- Austin Seunky Mokubung (DJ Vettys) – Music producer
- Anele Alicia Malinga (Japan) – Business associate
- Khumbulani Ncube – Alleged adversary
- Leonard Buhle Masongo – Alleged adversary
- Tshwarelo Pitso – Alleged adversary
Kekana and Mabusela are reported to have carried out the assassination attempts at Matlala’s behest.
Tsakani Matlala is charged as an accessory after the fact in multiple attempted murders, while Nzama faces money laundering charges for allegedly transferring funds that she was aware were proceeds of crime.
Several of the alleged offenses carry mandatory life sentences.
Expressing concern for the defendants, presiding judge Cassim Moosa urged them to actively participate in their defense, emphasizing that a guilty verdict could result in severe penalties.
Once confirming that the accused recognized the gravity of the accusations and had entered their pleas, Judge Moosa noted that at their next court appearance on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, he would provide writing materials for them to take notes during the proceedings.
All accused pleaded not guilty to the charges they face.
However, Advocate Annelene van den Heever, representing both Matlala and Tsakani, informed the court that her clients would be making specific concessions in their next court session.
Matlala, Kekana, and Mabusela were remanded in custody, while bail for the two women, Tsakani Matlala and Nzama, was extended.
The case has been scheduled for adjournment until Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
