WWE SummerSlam Night One Recap: Brock Lesnar Passes the Torch to Oba Femi and Teases Retirement

“THIS signifies the past – this encapsulates the future.”

That was Brock Lesnar’s proclamation to the Minnesota audience, officially handing over the torch to his rival after their encounter at SummerSlam.

Lesnar vs. Femi truly lived up to the anticipation.

The Beast Incarnate, fighting in his hometown, unleashed numerous F5s and German suplexes on Femi, who tenaciously resisted defeat.

On the other side, Femi executed his Fall from Grace powerbomb and delivered several chokeslams but ultimately couldn’t secure the victory.

As the match escalated, weapons were introduced. Lesnar crashed through a table and assaulted Femi with steel steps and a chair. When that proved ineffective, he ripped off the ring cover to expose the wood underneath.

Nick Aldis shines in his WWE debut at SummerSlam

Lesnar executed a tombstone piledriver—similar to The Undertaker—on the exposed wood, yet Femi miraculously kicked out again.

Femi, an NXT alumnus, landed the Fall from Grace one final time, finally achieving the three-count against Lesnar and securing a monumental win.

Lesnar permitted Femi to relish his moment before stepping back into the ring.

He shook Femi’s hand, hugged him, and then grabbed the microphone to declare that he represented the past while Femi signified the future. Is this the conclusion of Brock Lesnar’s career? Only time will tell.

Now, let’s recap the remaining SummerSlam results:

Liv Morgan (c) triumphed over IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship

One of Morgan’s highlight matches featured her competing against the elite SKY, culminating in the champion executing Oblivion. Following a roll-through by SKY, Morgan secured the victory once again.

Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, and Royce Keys emerged victorious over The Bloodline (Jimmy & Jey Uso and Jacob Fatu)

LA Knight clinched the pinfall after a BFT, but the match primarily focused on establishing Solo Sikoa as a dominant babyface. His rapport with the crowd and performance, both physically and emotionally, was remarkable. The moment is right for Sikoa.

Gunther emerged victorious over Nick Aldis

Aldis delivered an impressive performance, earning a “you still got it” chant from the crowd and a standing ovation afterward. Teamed with Gunther, whose subtle yet impactful style, allowed Aldis to shine and left fans eager for more.

Fatal Influence triumphed over The Bella Twins

This match served as a spotlight for Jacey Jane, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid. They achieved victory, but Paige’s standout performance captivated the audience. Post-match, the Bellas attacked Paige, partly for her being pinned and also for stepping in to replace Nikki at WrestleMania. Overall, the segment felt average.

CM Punk (c) defeated Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed World Heavyweight title

This match took some time to reach its zenith, but when it did, it was a thrill to watch. A memorable moment was CM Punk’s attempt at a moonsault, which he miscalculated, yet both competitors put forth their utmost effort into the bout. A dramatic twist occurred with Randy Orton’s unexpected return, marking his first appearance since WrestleMania.
