Cape Town – The Fire Management Team at Table Mountain National Park is actively fighting a fire near Kloofnek Corner along Tafelberg Road.
Firefighting teams have been deployed, joined by the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service and three Volunteer Wildfire Services teams who are assisting with containment efforts.
As a precaution, evacuations are underway at the Lower Station of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.
Rangers from South African National Parks (SANParks) and traffic officials are on-site to ensure the safe evacuation of visitors and manage traffic in the area.
“We strongly encourage the public to follow all instructions from officials at the scene,” said JP Louw, spokesperson for SANParks.
“The Contour Path and surrounding trails between Kloofnek and the Lower Cableway Station are closed until further notice.
“Visitors are also advised to avoid Tafelberg Road while emergency operations are ongoing.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
JP Louw indicated that SANParks will monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
