Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed on Monday, 3 August 2026, stating: “Over the weekend, three suspects, aged 40, 42, and 44, were arrested.”

The suspects are scheduled to appear in Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, facing charges of murder, kidnapping, and robbery.

In a related case, Brigadier Mathe reported that the PKTT recently arrested two suspects for the murder of Thabang Masemola, an African National Congress (ANC) councillor in Ward 10 of the City of Tshwane.

Masemola was fatally shot on 8 July 2025 in Mamelodi East.

The PKTT detained two suspects—an alleged hitman and a woman believed to be involved in planning the ANC councillor’s murder.

“The duo will appear once again in Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court, where the PKTT aims to link the hitman, 41-year-old Vusimuzi Champ Gebuza, to two additional cases concerning murder and attempted murder of two other individuals,” Brigadier Mathe stated.

These incidents took place in Mamelodi during 2023 and 2024.

Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, the Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), has commended the newly established Gauteng PKTT for making significant strides in investigations related to the killings of political party members and ward councillors in the area.
