Johannesburg – Authorities have detained a second individual believed to be involved in the brutal killings of two members of the Anti-Gang Unit as well as two women in Reiger Park last week.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) announced that a 24-year-old man was taken into custody on the afternoon of Sunday, 18 August 2026.
Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane and Constable Sphiwe Sibeko were sadly slain while responding to gunfire incidents in Reiger Park.
Additionally, two women lost their lives in the shootings.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe mentioned that the recent arrest was the outcome of a comprehensive tracing operation executed by a collaborative team, which included the Hawks, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, and the flying squad.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane commended the Reiger Park community for their involvement in assisting the investigators.
“This arrest is not just a victory for SAPS; it exemplifies the resilience of a community that refuses to be cowed by criminal acts,” stated Dimpane.
“We commend the citizens of Reiger Park for their proactive attitude, sharing their concerns, and supplying vital information to the police.
“Your courage and readiness to work with law enforcement have made a significant difference.”
At present, two suspects are in custody in connection with the murders.
Earlier this week, 23-year-old Reagan Collis appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court facing four counts of murder.
He remains incarcerated, with a formal bail hearing set for 25 August 2026.
The suspect who was recently arrested is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Lieutenant General Dimpane assured residents that SAPS and its law enforcement partners will continue their efforts to bring those responsible for gang-related violence to justice.
“We want the Reiger Park community to know that we are attentive to your concerns. We value those who have chosen to take a stand and express their views.
“Your tips are vital, and your bravery strengthens our investigative actions. We will persist in working with you to reclaim our neighborhoods from criminal activity,” she reaffirmed.
Constable Sibeko was buried on Saturday, 15 August 2026, while Constable Tlomatsane’s funeral took place earlier today, Sunday, 16 August 2026, in Limpopo.
