Durban – The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has confirmed the apprehension of three individuals who attempted to gain unauthorized access to the venue of the 46th Ordinary SADC Summit currently taking place in Durban.
In a statement shared with The Bulrushes, NATJOINTS disclosed that two nationals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo were arrested on Saturday, 15 August 2026, after they tried to enter the summit venue with accreditation that was not issued to them but belonged to another person.
“The suspects were identified at an access-control checkpoint when their identities did not correspond with the accreditation they presented and were swiftly apprehended,” the statement mentioned.
“The two Congolese nationals are currently facing charges of fraud, impersonation, and breaching the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010, regarding unauthorized access to a restricted area.
“Their identities and the circumstances surrounding the attempted access are still being investigated.”
Earlier this week, NATJOINTS also reported the arrest of a Zimbabwean national, who allegedly sought to obtain accreditation by falsely claiming to be a performing artist in order to secure entry into the summit venue.
“The Zimbabwean national is facing charges related to being illegally present in the Republic of South Africa,” the statement highlighted.
“This incident raises the total number of individuals arrested for attempting to circumvent the summit’s accreditation and access-control measures to three.”
NATJOINTS has issued a stern warning stating that the exchanging, lending, sharing, falsification, or misuse of accreditation, along with any attempts to enter the summit venue without proper authorization, will be met with zero tolerance.
NATJOINTS emphasized that only those individuals holding valid, authorized, and appropriately issued accreditation will be permitted access to the Durban International Convention Centre.
