Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Police are offering a reward of R100,000 for any information that may assist in the arrest and prosecution of double murder suspect Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane.
Referred to as “Calcutta’s most wanted,” Matsane is accused of being involved in the deadly shooting of two men at a tavern in Marite, Calcutta, on 15 May 2023.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo urged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Madala Ndashe at 076 244 8577 or Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Magagula at 082 780 6815.
“All information will be treated with confidentiality,” Colonel Masondo assured.
“The public is strongly advised against attempting to apprehend the suspect, as he is regarded as armed and very dangerous.”
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, stressed that police are committed to fighting crime within the Calcutta policing district, including areas such as Mkhuhlu, where multiple murder incidents have been reported recently.
Colonel Masondo noted that authorities have not dismissed the possibility of Matsane’s involvement in other murder cases that are presently under investigation.
