Kaizer Chiefs’ Lebohang Maboe has been removed from the Bafana Bafana squad due to an ankle injury, prompting head coach Pitso Mosimane to enlist Orlando Pirates striker Tshepang Moremi as his replacement.
Maboe suffered the injury during the Chiefs’ scoreless Betway Premiership match against Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium last weekend.
A medical assessment performed by Bafana Bafana’s team doctor, Tshepo Molobi, on Monday confirmed the severity of the injury, officially sidelining him for the upcoming international matches.
“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs, and after the scan results, he’s been declared unfit for the current camp and this FIFA window,” Dr. Molobi explained.
Considering this situation, Mosimane has chosen Moremi, who has faced some minor injury troubles at Pirates lately, to join the national squad.

Bafana Bafana will kick off their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign by facing Guinea at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Four days later, they will head to Egypt to battle Eritrea at a neutral site, wrapping up the extended FIFA break against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on October 4.
