Pi Network Enhances User Experience for Over 900,000 with KYC and Wallet Updates

The Pi Network has successfully overcome a KYC challenge for over 417,000 users and has introduced a wallet solution for an additional 497,000 accounts that experienced difficulties while attempting to claim their migrated PI balances.

Summary

  • More than 417,000 users can proceed with KYC after Pi has addressed potential duplicate-account flags.
  • Approximately 497,000 Fast-Track wallets were unable to claim PI due to a lack of sufficient gas funds.
  • Yoti and Indonesian KIA applicants have new options for resubmitting their identity documentation.
  • Protocol V27 has moved to Testnet 2 after processing about 250 transactions per block.

Pi Network has resumed KYC for 417,000 users

The Pi Core Team recently announced that they have improved the checks for accounts previously flagged as potential duplicates. This update allows over 417,000 Pioneers, identified as unique users, to continue the Know Your Customer (KYC) process.

It’s essential to clarify that eliminating the duplicate-account flag does not ensure that each affected user has successfully passed KYC. Applicants must still complete any outstanding identity verification and meet the criteria outlined in the Mainnet Checklist before transferring their balances to the live network.

This update tackles a long-standing challenge in the migration process. A report from September 9 noted that out of the 60 million claimed engaged Pioneers on Pi’s network, only about 16.6 million had finalized the migration, reflecting a conversion rate of 27.6% at that time. Key steps involved KYC approval, wallet creation, and user confirmation.

In this context, the 417,000 newly eligible users represent about 2.5% of the previously reported total of migrated users. Their access to the Mainnet will depend on completing all necessary verifications and migration steps.

Pi has also reevaluated submissions from users who completed identity verification through Yoti, a third-party service used during an earlier phase of the network’s KYC program. Some earlier applications lacked the updated liveness information that is now mandatory, preventing users from progressing.

Affected Yoti users now have the option to submit new applications via Pi’s native KYC system. It is recommended that users check the KYC app for resubmission possibilities instead of assuming that previous Yoti approvals meet current standards.

Additionally, Indonesian applicants whose KIA, or child identity card submissions, were rejected now have the chance to resubmit their information using another acceptable form of identification.

A gas-fee solution will assist 497,000 Fast-Track wallets

In addition to KYC issues, around 497,000 users who received Mainnet wallets through Pi’s Fast-Track migration process faced difficulties claiming their migrated tokens.

Pi attributed these challenges to insufficient PI in the newly assigned wallets. Although users had available balances for claiming, their wallets did not contain enough PI to cover the required gas fees for transaction completion.

The Core Team aims to implement a technical solution within a week of this announcement. This fix will enable affected accounts to regain access and prevent future gas-fee issues from obstructing forthcoming Fast-Track migrations.

Users whose previous claims failed due to inadequate gas are encouraged to retry the claiming process. Pi recommends that Pioneers visit the wallet or migration interface and confirm whether their balances are now accessible, rather than creating new wallets or repeating unrelated KYC steps.

It is crucial to grasp that KYC approval and balance migration serve different purposes within Pi’s ecosystem. Identity verification confirms that an account belongs to an eligible individual, while migration transfers a user’s approved balance from internal application records to a Mainnet wallet. Therefore, a user may pass KYC but still face separate issues with wallets, checklists, or transactions.

Earlier reports on Pi’s first Open Mainnet year identified migration delays as one of the ongoing operational challenges since the network’s launch in February 2025. The report also noted that the value of PI peaked at $2.99 after listing before declining to about $0.15 by May 2026.

For U.S. users, the latest update only adjusts access for accounts affected by Pi’s internal KYC and wallet processes. The announcement did not specify a different procedure for U.S. Pioneers or mention any changes regarding the availability of PI on American trading platforms.

Pi Network has enhanced its identity verification tools

Alongside the account reviews, Pi has implemented support for liveness checks on older mobile devices. Liveness tests typically require applicants to use a device camera to demonstrate that a real person is undergoing verification, rather than relying solely on an uploaded photo.

Supporting older hardware could aid users whose devices were incapable of handling earlier versions of this verification step. The Core Team has encouraged applicants to complete a liveness test whenever prompted by the KYC app, as leaving this step unfinished may delay the overall application process.

Furthermore, Pi has launched a pilot program for palm-print authentication. Specific public details about the pilot’s scale, eligible areas, or whether palm verification may eventually replace any current KYC step have not yet been disclosed.

The network has utilized a substantial pool of validators for processing identity applications. The September 9 report indicated that 1,094,680 human validators had performed over 526 million verification tasks, although this total does not equate to the number of approved users.

As previously reported by crypto.news, Pi mentioned in May that over 18.1 million users had successfully cleared its native KYC checks, and more than 16.7 million Pioneers had migrated to Mainnet. The recent review of duplicate accounts does not add the 417,000 completed migrations to either total, as each individual must first complete their outstanding verification and checklist requirements.

Protocol V27 testing has progressed to Testnet 2

While addressing these account-related challenges, the network has advanced Protocol V27 testing from Testnet 1 to Testnet 2.

A report on Protocol V27 from September revealed that the Testnet 1 deployment began on August 21, following the completion of Protocol 26. This earlier update connected Protocol V27 to smart-contract authentication, RPC infrastructure, and automated market maker liquidity pools.

Protocol 26 required approximately 421,000 node operators to update their software by August 11 or risk losing access to Mainnet. Pi has described V27 as the final planned upgrade in its current development framework; however, further software patches and maintenance updates may follow.

The previous roadmap aimed for a Mainnet launch by September 15 after testing across two networks. However, Pi’s recent updates suggest that V27 is now operational on Testnet 2, indicating that the testing phase has extended beyond the initially expected timeline.

During the Testnet 2 phase, Pi has disclosed that the network has managed around 250 transactions per block without experiencing any failures.
