Product Recall: NCC Announces Recall of Multiple Items by ButtaNutt Peanut Butter Manufacturer

Johannesburg – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced it has received a product recall notification from ButtaNutt (Pty) Ltd, a peanut butter manufacturer.

In a statement released to The Bulrushes on Monday, 9 February 2026, it was noted, “The recall is prompted by aflatoxin levels detected in the product that surpass legal limits.”

The affected products failed to meet the quality standards outlined in the Department of Health’s Regulation R.1145, which sets tolerance levels for fungal toxins in food.

“Exposure to aflatoxin may lead to health complications such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort,” the NCC warned.

The products in question were produced on 15 January 2026 and were distributed in the following regions:

These items were available across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape through a variety of retailers, listed below:

NCC Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu emphasized: “Consumers should immediately stop using the affected products and return them to the original point of purchase for a full refund.”

“The NCC is currently engaged in discussions with the supplier regarding the contamination levels, which may stem from the raw nuts supplier.”

The NCC is managing this recall in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act.
