MKP Asks Former Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card

Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has officially expelled former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from its ranks, with leadership by ex-president Jacob Zuma.

Following Ndhlela’s dismissal as spokesperson, the MKP revealed his membership suspension, removal from his position as an MP, and that he is required to return all party property in his possession within seven days.

Ndhlela’s ouster came after he released a contentious media statement concerning the newly formed MK Institute, asserting that it would take full control of the party’s leadership structures.

The party’s leadership condemned the statement as “null and void,” declaring it unconstitutional, which resulted in his immediate termination.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko sent a letter to Ndhlela detailing the sanctions.

“This letter serves to formally inform you that President Jacob Zuma has decided to suspend your membership in the party, effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko wrote.

“This action follows allegations of misconduct, instigating division, and damaging the party’s reputation.”

The letter, analyzed by The Bulrushes, further stated: “Awaiting the investigation’s conclusion, you are prohibited from representing the party in any official capacity and barred from accessing or operating any MKP social media and public accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms. You are also required to return all party property, including but not limited to documents, devices, membership card, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”

Ndhlela, who was quickly succeeded as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has yet to publicly address his predicament.
