Luke Humphries Credits Fiancée as His Secret Weapon in Impressive Premier League Darts Comeback

LUKE HUMPHRIES has shown appreciation for his fiancée, who has supported him during his Premier League challenges.

Cool Hand Luke is getting ready for his £350,000 title defense by enjoying some “relaxing” rounds of golf.

At 31, Cool Hand Luke finally scored a victory in Birmingham on Thursday, earning his place in the playoffs at the O2 Arena.

Just weeks ago, many were skeptical about his chances of making the final four.

However, he attributes his success to the supportive words from his partner Kayley – engaged since May 2024 – which motivated him to prove the doubters wrong.

The world No. 2, who has returned to his favored setup of points and flights, remarked: “I’m just incredibly proud of myself.

“Probably the most proud I’ve ever been in my life because, for me, the last two Premier Leagues were relatively easy.

“Once you get past the 14th week, it feels like you’re playing for nothing. However, these last three weeks have brought significant pressure to reach three finals and win one.

“This achievement is crucial to me, as it highlights my grit and determination. I often find myself underestimated as a player.

“I had my doubts about qualifying. When we were five points away from the top four, it felt like we needed a miracle.

“My girlfriend Kayley kept saying, ‘You’ve got it in you. You know you can do it.’

“Sometimes, I just need that little bit of encouragement from someone.

“Missing the chance to defend my title at the O2 would have been very painful for me, even if I wouldn’t admit it.”

Luke Littler is leading the Premier table for the third consecutive year and will face the fourth-ranked player – Humphries – in the semi-finals on May 28 in North Greenwich.

In the other semi-final, the second and third-placed players will compete, possibly leading to an all-Welsh matchup between Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price.

Although Sheffield next Thursday may not affect qualification, Humphries could gather enough points to potentially avoid meeting The Nuke until the final.

For now, he plans to take his clubs and head to the golf course.

Humphries, the 2024 world darts champion, stated: “Whether I’m third or fourth, it doesn’t matter.

“If I’m fourth, I’ll face Luke, and both of us know how to beat each other. It’ll be an exciting match, but everyone prefers to see that in the final.

“So, what’s next? Golf. Probably just some relaxation.

“I’ll likely join the ProTours midweek for some practice and then enjoy lots of golf. It feels beneficial to me right now.

“I’ve been playing a lot of golf lately, and it’s helping my game, so I’ll keep doing it.”
